There are voices in the static. Ghosts in warped recordings. And a mystery that begins with a musician who vanished decades ago. Step inside Vincent Brandt’s studio.

Independent studio Cobalt Lane has unveiled Imprinted, a slow-burn psychological thriller exploring creativity, obsession, and the lingering echoes artists leave behind. Set to launch on Steam later in 2026, Imprinted is a game that asks you not just to listen — but to hear.

You play as Vincent Brandt, a gifted but disillusioned audio engineer tasked with restoring the lost recordings of Viola Fossati, an experimental musician from the 1970s whose career — and life — ended suddenly and without explanation. What begins as routine restoration work soon becomes something far stranger. The tapes resist. The noise conceals intent. And Viola’s presence begins to bleed through the sound itself.

As Vincent digs deeper, Imprinted becomes less about fixing broken audio and more about uncovering what was left behind — emotionally, creatively, and perhaps supernaturally.

In Imprinted, players will:

  • Restore corrupted and incomplete recordings from Viola’s personal archive
  • Use professional audio tools to isolate hidden details buried within the noise
  • Explore an intimate connection between two artists separated by decades
  • Reassemble unfinished songs and decide what deserves to be preserved
  • Experience an original soundtrack from award-winning composer Filippo Beck Peccoz and ambient/post-folk musician Charlotte Oleena
“The core of our story grew from this idea that human experience gets imprinted upon everything - including sound. Vincent and Viola never share a room, never speak face-to-face, but through these broken tapes they form a strange, intimate connection. This "conversation" sparks Vincent's creativity to a degree that throws Vincent into a spiral of obsession and loss of control. Ultimately, Imprinted is a ghost story about creativity." - Filippo Beck Peccoz, Creative Director at Cobalt Lane

Designed for fans of slow-burn horror and narrative-driven experiences, Imprinted draws from analog horror, artifact-led storytelling, and audio-first gameplay. If you’re drawn to stories told through logs, tapes, and fragments — and atmospheres that are as beautiful as they are unsettling — this is one to keep on your radar.

You can wishlist Imprinted on its Steam page.

I've been gaming since the days of the Amstrad. Huge RPG fan. Planescape: Torment tops my list, but if a game tells a good story, I'm interested. Absolutely not a fanboy of any specific console or PC - the proof is in the gaming pudding. Also, I like cake.
