Rage 2 has been on the gaming periphery for so long that it's almost become background noise — like a low hum, you're aware of it but you can't quite place your finger on what it actually is. We've been told it involves guns, vehicles and some crazy action, but that's been pretty much it until now.

Thankfully, Bethesda have got our backs. In their latest trailer they explain exactly what Rage 2 is and... well, it's more over-the-top, more intense, and more weird than we ever expected.

It also looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

An open world shooter with multiple factions, ridiculous action, massive guns and a protagonist with abilities that B.J. Blazkowicz could only dream of, it seems like Rage 2 has it all. Gameplay and aesthetic appears to be a truly insane mash-up of elements from other brilliant shooters such as Mercenaries, Borderlands and Bulletstorm while the driving segments could well put the likes of Mad Max to shame.

We are super excited about this, and Bethesda couldn't have released this trailer at a better time to ramp up anticipation: the release date for PC, Xbox One and PS4 is only a couple of weeks away on May 14th, 2019.

Wastelands' thrilling finale means it's a step up from Rules, but it makes a few missteps in its handling of the brothers’ relationship to get there.

I've been gaming since the days of the Amstrad. Huge RPG fan. Planescape: Torment tops my list, but if a game tells a good story, I'm interested. Absolutely not a fanboy of any specific console or PC - the proof is in the gaming pudding. Also, I like cake.
