The Last of Us 3 may be in the draft stages over at Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann hopes that it’ll see the light of day “one day”. No, this isn't an official announcement and the game isn’t in development, but it’s at least being thought of by the jewel in PlayStation Studios’ crown.

The news comes from the Script Apart podcast (per Eurogamer) where Druckmann, creative director, said that there was an outline for what happens after the events of The Last of Us Part II.

“I don’t know how much I want to reveal,” said Druckmann before discussing a story outline that had been penned by himself and co-writer Halley Gross. However, he was quick to confirm that it isn’t in active development. “I hope one day [it] can see the light of day… We’ll see”.

Later in the conversation Druckmann states that there has been “quite a bit” of discussion about a potential sequel at Naughty Dog — something which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given the critical reception of The Last of Us and its sequel — but makes sure to clarify that it’s not something the team is working on right now.

"After we finish one of our big titles, we take a long time to explore different ideas, whether it's going to be Last of Us 3, whether it's something new, whether there's some old franchise we want to go back to,” Druckman added. He continued: "I like to fully explore all of those, and then look at, okay, we have all of these ideas in front of us. As a studio, what do we want to commit to?”

Jason Schrier of Bloomberg recently claimed that Naughty Dog is working on a remake of the original Last of Us, with a planned multiplayer addition to The Last of Us II also supposedly in the works.
