A remake Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, one of BioWare’s most popular RPGs, was announced alongside a slew of other big PlayStation news on Thursday at the PlayStation Showcase event.

For those unfamiliar with KOTOR, it’s a classic Star Wars (the movies with lightsabers) RPG that was originally released in 2003. It’s set 4,000 years before the fall of the Galactic Empire (the bad guys) was founded, and in the game, you play as a member of the Jedi (the good guys) who is tasked with tracking down a Sith lord (a really bad guy). It’s one of the best-reviewed games of all time that’s been praised for its amazing roleplaying systems that allows the player to forge their own path in the world.

Although not much is known about the upcoming remake, according to the PlayStation Blog, it's being developed by Aspyr, the folks behind the Star Wars Republic Commando remaster for Nintendo Switch. In the past, the developer has also worked on plenty of other Star Wars titles including porting Episode 1 Racer, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast to Switch and bringing the original KOTOR to iOS devices.

Unsurprisingly, the blog post also noted that the game will be a complete remake, too.

“With Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, our hope is to give both series newcomers and long-term fans an experience that can live alongside the very best modern releases,” said Ryan Treadwell, the lead producer at Aspyr who wrote the blog post linked above. “We're rebuilding it from the ground up with the latest tech to match the groundbreaking standard of innovation established by the original, all while staying true to its revered story."

It also states that the game will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive at launch, but it will be coming to PC too according to a Lucasfilm Games tweet.

Although this news isn’t coming out of nowhere, as Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier talked about it on a podcast earlier this year, it’s still exciting news. When there’s more to report, too, you can be sure to read about it here on Jump Dash Roll!

Somebody once told me the world was going to roll me, and they were right. I love games that let me take good-looking screenshots and ones that make me depressed, so long as the game doesn't overstay its welcome.
