Marvel’s Avengers got its first public gameplay outing on Tuesday, with a previously press-only doors demo being officially released by Square Enix as Gamescom 2020 begins.

One of the biggest talking points surrounding E3 2019 for better or worse, fans are now closer to understanding what exactly a AAA outing for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will look like in action and, most importantly, what the game will play like.

As the demo switches between Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Black Widow, there’s a sense of how each character will interact with their environment. Each character represents a different archetype, offering a variety of ways to play. How this will come together into a cohesive project is yet to be seen, but the promise is there.

The focus on story from the initial reveal trailer is present too, and the dynamism found in this segment of the game’s prologue opens up plenty of possibilities where storytelling and character interaction is concerned.

We might not be looking at Death Stranding levels of confusion here, but it would be good to know what we can expect from Marvel’s Avengers. However, with a release date of May 15th, 2020 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, developer Crystal Dynamics has more than enough time to get us to grasp their vision of The Avengers.
