Iron Man is going VR in 2019. Marvel’s Iron Man VR was announced on Monday, kicking off Sony’s first State of Play presentation.

A hectic, mid-air combat sequence makes up the bulk of the trailer and sees the Iron Man suit — a new suit dubbed the Impulse Armor, designed by Marvel illustrator Adi Granov — taking shape as Tony Stark falls to earth. All of these cutscenes are tagged with “not actual gameplay”.

The little gameplay we do see, shows that players will have the ability to use all of Iron Man’s signature gadgets — thrusters,  blasters, that sort of thing — and the moment-to-moment gameplay appears to be an on-rails shooter with Stark and his AI-sidekick FRIDAY providing constant chatter to the player.

A post on the Marvel blog sheds more light on the title: “Tony Stark confronts ghosts from his past — powerful forces who seek to ruin him and everything he stands for… Players will come face-to-face with iconic allies and Super Villains as they jet around the globe on a heroic mission to save not only Stark Industries, but the world itself.”

Iron Man VR is developed by Camoflaj, who worked alongside Sony Interactive Entertainment and Marvel Games on the project.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Camoflaj director Ryan Payton says that his team has “set our sights on not only giving the player thrilling moment-to-moment action, but also a deeply personal, and appropriately funny, narrative that puts players in Tony Stark’s armored shoes."

Iron Man VR is set for release in 2019. A price has yet to be announced.
