High On Life is a madcap new shooter set on an alien world where the guns can talk. Yes, you read that correctly. The brainchild of Rick & Morty creator Justin Roiland, the game made its debut during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase on Sunday.

With humanity threatened by an alien cartel who wants to use our species as drugs — because of course — our heroic bounty hunter must rescue and partner with an arsenal of talking weaponry to take down Garmantous and his gang and save Earth.

In the trailer, we can see an array of talking firearms as well as a particularly excited anthropomorphic knife. Each weapon will offer its “own narrative take” on the game’s events. It all looks very silly, but certainly grabbed the attention amongst a sea of more serious games like Starfield and Diablo IV. It’s also exactly what fans of Roiland’s comedy have come to expect.

Developed by Roiland’s own Squanch Games, whose previous titles include Accounting+ and Trover Saves the Universe, High on Life looks to be the team’s most ambitious game to date.

High on Life is scheduled to release later in 2022 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
