GTA Online will shut down on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Rockstar has announced. The shutdown comes as part of a wider closure of online services, with Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire also having the plug pulled on their online features.

GTA Online will go… erm… offline on December 16th. Ahead of the server shutdown, Shark Cards for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be removed from sale. That first step will take place on September 16th — the same day Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire will have their online services shuttered.

Of course, the single-player portions of all three of these games will remain playable. However, players will not be able to transfer their character, currency or anything else to any other version of the game.

It’s often hard to believe that Grand Theft Auto V actually launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game has been a mainstay throughout two generations and doesn’t look like stopping. We already know an updated GTA Online is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in November (per TheSixthAxis) — the game’s third iteration!

Per PCGamer, GTA Online makes Rockstar, and parent company TakeTwo Interactive, over half a billion dollars a year.
