Forza Horizon 5 will be released on November 9th. The game was announced on Sunday during the Xbox + Bethesda E3 2021 presentation.

Mexico is the destination this time around for the “most open and diverse” Forza game to date. Playground Games’ racing series looks incredible both in terms of pure graphical fidelity but also because of how fast and fluid the game is.

Detail oriented to the nth degree, you can see everything from the spines on a cactus to all of the gloriously detailed cars. Volumetric lighting brings an amazing level of realism to the environments, and even the skies are photo realistic: created using actual footage of the sky above Mexico as reference.

All of this takes place on a huge map that is attempting to create an “honest, authentic” digital version of Mexico. From the cities to the mountains, the different biomes in the world will present their own challenges and make for very fun gameplay — which is what this is all about, of course.

On top of the excellent racing gameplay the series is known for, Forza Horizon 5 also includes a campaign. Called ‘Expedition Mode’, players are guided through this huge world, discovering new areas for the Horizon festival to move to. It’s all voice acted and adds something extra for players to do solo.

Of course, multiplayer is where the real fun of Forza is. Horizon 5 introduces ‘Forza Link’ — a brand new AI assistant to make multiplayer as seamless as possible. Players can team up with others for races or minigames — like bowling and pinata smashing — and the service even has a Spotify-esque algorithm in place to alert players of modes you prefer. If that’s not enough, Horizon 5 includes an unprecedented level of customisation allowing players to create game modes of their own and even change the fundamental rules of the game.

One of the most impressive games shown during the presentation, Forza Horizon 5 is going to be a big game for Xbox come the end of this year.
