Fallout 76 is still kicking. Despite what you may have heard, Bethesda has emphasised just how well this game is doing in 2019 despite an admittedly rocky launch. Following some jokes in the game’s direction, director Todd Howard introduced Wastelanders — a brand new expansion.

Wastelanders will see humans return to the world following the clean up attempts in the first year of Fallout 76. The re-introduction of human NPCs — a huge missing element from the game — introduces a new questline, dialogue trees and more. This essentially turns the game into more of a traditional Fallout game. Potentially, anyway.

On top of the Wastelanders announcement, Bethesda also announced the addition of a new 52-player battle royale mode. Nuclear Winter will focus on one player becoming the Overseer of Vault 51. Players will get an in-game sneak peek at the mode soon and you can see a trailer for that below.

Finally, anyone wanting to jump into Fallout 76 and give it a try following a round of recent updates — including the new Wild Appalachia expansion — a free trial is available from June 10th until June 17th.

There’s clearly a focus on fixing Fallout 76. A throwaway line in the conference said that this route was always the plan in the game’s second year. Whether that’s true or not, we’ll find out if it’s worked in the autumn.
