The Game Kitchen and Team 17 have today unleashed Blasphemous, a new Metroidvania hack-and-slash pixel art game, which looks to draw inspiration from indie hit Dead Cells. A new launch trailer showcases the action:

In the land of Cvstodia you play The Penitent One, the only person who can stop the blight known as "The Miracle" which has plagued the land with monsters and massive, brutal bosses. Your sword, Mea Culpa, is the weapon you'll use to cleanse the land. But is Blasphemous a game you'll swear by playing, or will its difficulty just make you swear at it in general?

With a deep story, buffs, special attacks and other customisations available to discover, Blasphemous certainly tips its hat in Motion Twin's direction, which can only be a good thing.

Blasphemous releases today on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.

I've been gaming since the days of the Amstrad. Huge RPG fan. Planescape: Torment tops my list, but if a game tells a good story, I'm interested. Absolutely not a fanboy of any specific console or PC - the proof is in the gaming pudding. Also, I like cake.
