Rusty Lake, purveyors of the morbidly enjoyable Rusty Lake series of games, has turned ten years old. To celebrate, they've released a short film and a brand new game you can download for free on Steam: The Mr. Rabbit Magic Show.

Here's the film - although you may get a lot more enjoyment from it if you finish the game first, as there are loads of fun nods to it!

As for the game, it's both surprisingly long for a freebie (around 1-2 hours depending on your lateral thinking), and very well designed. The titular show contains 20 mini puzzles to solve, including reaction tests, observational challenges and Simple Simon-esque challenges. The series' eerie and sometimes comically grotesque roots are present, and when the magic show is complete there's a bigger and more traditionally Rusty Lake game to solve, but with a birthday theme.

They are also teasing their next point-and-click adventure, Servant of the Lake which takes place just before Rusty Lake Roots and once more delves into the tragic past of the Vanderboom family. We were big fans of their last two games, co-op puzzler The Past Within and Underground Blossom, so check back for our review of this near its release date. In the meantime, The Mr. Rabbit Magic Show is a super freebie to keep us sated. Happy birthday, Rusty Lake!

I've been gaming since the days of the Amstrad. Huge RPG fan. Planescape: Torment tops my list, but if a game tells a good story, I'm interested. Absolutely not a fanboy of any specific console or PC - the proof is in the gaming pudding. Also, I like cake.
